Diabetes: The Periodontal Saga Posted By : Julia Hanf.

Diabetes is a disease which is as complex in its origins as it is in the complications it brings about. From your heart, to your kidneys, your eyes and even your nervous system there's barely a part of your body diabetes leaves untouched if mismanaged. To add to this already bludgeoning string of ailments is periodontal disease. As the name suggests, periodontal literally translates into 'around your teeth' and is a chronic bacterial infection that plagues your gums and the bone which supports your teeth. How ever, this ailment is as two-toned as diabetes, not just resulting as an outcome of the disease, but also interfering in the process of diabetes management on the whole. Thus, even as the hapless diabetic grapples with periodontal disease, this infection is further wrecking his management program, making it even harder for him to keep his condition in control.

Insulin Pumps: Is It Time You Considered That Alternative? Posted By : Julia Hanf.

Modern-day diabetes therapy has now come to be almost synonymous with painful insulin injections. While the importance of battling your disease with insulin supplements is undeniable, given the key role they play in moderating your blood glucose levels, the tedium of having to endure numerous injections during the course of a day is not a very engaging prospect. In fact, it is this very fact of insulin injections which tends to cloud a victim's perspective of the benefits of his diabetes treatment, as the negative attributes very often overshadow the effectiveness of insulin as a part of a diabetes management program. This makes the individual put off treatment until the consequences of his disease get the better of him, or even be irregular with administering insulin causing his blood glucose levels to oscillate violently. When the glucose levels rise too high, as a result of insulin-deficiency, the individual develops hyperglycemia, followed by a severe hypoglycemic state which is instigated by the sudden fall when insulin is administered.

Diabetes: Exercise Your Illness Away! Posted By : Julia Hanf.

The human body derives its nutrition and energy from the food we eat. This it does by breaking down the carbohydrate content of the food into more simple sugars, or glucose, which then travels through the blood stream to different parts of the body to use. However, sometimes cells of the body are unable to convert the glucose to energy, either because the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin, or because the cells themselves fail to recognize this production and thus cannot metabolize the glucose. And this ailment, which is growing increasingly common with every passing day, is referred to as Diabetes.

Diabetes Diet Plans: Your Delicious Road To Good Health Posted By : Jula Hanf

One of the most widespread of all chronic diseases of the modern world, Diabetes is defined as the condition where the body is unable to produce the energy it requires, because of its inability to metabolize sugar. Although this disease is potentially life threatening, the graver consequences that are attributed to Diabetes, can easily be averted by taking a few remedial precautions like regular exercise, making sure you take your medication on time and also testing your glucose levels to make sure you're in control. Your diet, too, plays a crucial role in determining how effective your diabetes treatment is going to be, because when you eat, is as crucial in regulating your blood glucose as the kind of food you eat.

Well, well, well. I do believe we finally have a winner: free therapy for the growing number of those with diabetes. It turns out there are few excuses for diabetics -- or any of us, for that matter -- not to exercise. According to recent reports, nearly any form of exercise benefits the long-term control of blood sugar levels, be it aerobic, weight/resistance training, or both.

It's becoming increasingly difficult for diabetics to know which is worse -- having the disease, or realizing the treatment for it just might be fatal, too. Late last month, a federal drug advisory board voted overwhelmingly in favor of keeping Avandia, a medication for Type 2 diabetes, on the market, despite findings that it raised the risk of heart attacks and angina.

In simple terms diabetes is the inability of the body to process sugars properly. When we eat or drink our pancreas produces a hormone called insulin. Insulin is released into the blood and helps to regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. Diabetes is a condition where this process does not function correctly.
