ISLAND HONEYMOON NOVEMBER

Key West, Florida ?’s?
We are going to Key West for our honeymoon in November. Most of it is already planned but I want to clear up some details, that way nothing can mess it up and we can make it as nice as possible. So your answers will be very helpful
approximately how much does a cab ride cost in key west, say if you go from one end of the island to the other (4 miles)?
would you recommend a cab service there?
are they easy to flag down, or do you have to call and wait for one?
if you could go one place or do one thing on the island, where or what would it be?
best place to eat and/or shop?
is there anything else that would make our honeymoon even better?
Thanks!
We went there for our 10-year honeymoon a couple years ago. You can catch a cab/van at the airport and take it into town, which is what we did. I think it was about 20 bucks each way. We didn’t bother to rent a car when we were there. We just walked everywhere. We did rent a tandem bike one day and rode around the island for a few hours.
Food and drinks are quite expensive there. We stopped at a bunch of different spots (Sloppy Joes, Hogs Breath, other spots on Duval and other main streets) when we were there and we pretty much liked them all. I can’t remember the one place that was our favorite, but I remember it wasn’t on Duval – it was up one of the side streets. It was a little fancier, but definitely the best food we had and my recollection was that it wasn’t any more expensive then some of the other places we ate. The one place that was terrible was the restaurant/bar next to/part of the Pirate Soul Museum. The service was terrible and the food was burnt.
Two things that we did when we were there that were our favorite:
1 – Ferry out to Dry Tortugas National Park (see link below) – it was a little pricey and took a whole day, but it was outstanding
2 – Sunset cruise on tall-masted schooner – you can just head down to the dock and buy tickets for this – no need to have advance reservations
By the way, if you go to Dry Tortugas (or any other National Park), pick up a National Parks Passport! They’re only about $8. My wife and I have one (and one for each of our 4 kids) and it’s a great way to plan vacations and keep a memento of all the places we’ve been to together!
