Where to go in Malaysia in December or January?

My husband and I will be honeymooning in Malaysia in mid-to-late December or early January. Not the best time of the year I know, but it can’t be helped. I understand that a part of the country is in the wet season at this time and part is not, is this correct? What does the wet season mean in practical terms (i.e. will hotels/attractions/tours be closed in the wet season, will it be uncomfortable)? What part of the country should we go to at this time of the year?
We are interested in swimming/snorkeling, hiking, seeing wildlife, having a good laksa and relaxing. Not interested in the nightlife or shopping.

Hi there , welcome to malaysia , Yup October till January is Monsoon season where we have plenty of rains , especially on east malaysia . The best place to visit would be Penang island , has a beautifull beaches, food’s like (laksa , ice kacang , cendol) , Pangkor Island and similar with beautiful beaches . Langkawi would be a great for holiday during tht season .But bear in mind November till December is school holiday in malaysia, it would be rather crowd everywhere you go .
Visiting Sabah and Sarawak would be a good choice where u can be surounded by nature and beautifull beach’s . Nexus resort would be a ideal hotel to stay , I personally stayed there .

Sipadan island a nice place to visit for scuba or diving .
