HONEYMOON SPAIN COAST

Honeymoon in October 2009 – Spain?
We are getting married next October and were thinking of going to Spain as our honeymon! Any tips on where to go or places to see? Hotels, transportation, etc? We were thinking Madrid and the southern coast. Is it particularly expensive? Anything to watch out for?
Yeah, Spain ain´t cheap like it used to be, so, everything is expensive!
On the upside, the dollar has been rising fairly quickly, which could offset some of the inflation…and the recession could bring some prices down.
I´m guessing you want to stay someplace a little more upscale than where we did, but the location was PRIMO!!! Hostal Cruz Sol in Madrid…just put that in the search window and it will come up…in the Plaza Santa Cruz, just off the Plaza Mayor…like, twenty paces. It´s clean and basic, under $100 a night. But it´s basic.
I couldn´t tell you where to go or where to stay on the coast.
You could go to Granada. VERY romantic! Read up on the Tales from the Alhambra before you go. Again, not only was the place we stayed in pretty basic, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the staff, either…not even gonna give you the name.
Ronda is very pretty as well. You could splurge and stay in the Parador, there. INCREDIBLE views! Or just go for coffee on the balcony.
Only things to watch out for are pickpockets. They are everywhere that tourists are, and those vendors that will pester you the minute you make eye contact. You don’t want what they are selling anyway…bootleg cds/dvds that might not play in American equipment, anyway. Knockoff leather goods, junk, mostly.
While in Madrid, side trip to Segovia and Toledo. Both very sweet, pretty, and romantic towns, and if you have time and a rent a car, do the Castle route, too. Just pick a few to see, and go…VERY pretty! We went to Coca and Peñafiel.
