HONEYMOON KAUAI BEACH
Mean name for a baby?
My husband and I honeymooned in Kauai and our favorite beach was in Hanalei… My hubby thought that would be a perfect name when we have children to name our daughter. It’s pronounced Hana- lay, do you think it’d be mean, since people will probably butcher it all the time? For a girl, her middle name would be my grandmother’s maiden name- Shoiya (she’s Japanese) and our last name is Nguyen, which people already butcher.
So would Hanalei Shoiya Nguyen be too mean to name our future daughter, since there would be nothing anyone could likely pronounce correctly? (pronouced correctly it’s actually quite nice)
Hanalei Shoiya is a very beautiful name! It’s unique, but very classy. I love the asian/islander feel to it. It has alot of spark. It’s not mean to name your daughter this at all. Yes, people are gonna misspell and mispronounce it sometimes, but that happens to alot of people, no matter what their name is. They do that with my name too and I have a very common name. They often misspell my last name, McDonald with an A in the beginning.
I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s a great name and I really love the nickname Hana, which means flower in Japanese.
The name flows perfectly too. I’d be really excited if my parents had given it to me. I think your daughter will too.
