HONEYMOON ISLAND TAMPA

HONEYMOON ISLAND TAMPA
What theme park would you recommend?

My fiance and I LOVE roller coasters and theme parks in general, and we want to go to one on our honeymoon next year. We’re looking to go someplace new and different, though, since we’ve both been to Disney World, Universal, Islands of Adventure, Busch Gardens in Tampa, and Six Flags Over Georgia. Do you know of any other great theme parks with plenty of roller coasters (Disney really doesn’t have enough of those)? What other theme park(s) would you recommend?

Depending on how much time you have for your honeymoon, and if you just want to ride roller coasters, I would recommending hitting a bunch of parks on one trip.

The park I would recommend the most is Cedar Point. The place is amazing. It’s located on an island on Lake Erie and has 17 roller coasters, most of which were record breakers when they opened, and they are amazing coasters. The place also boasts great customer service, which means the coasters usual run at the highest capacity even when the park its extremely busy. Lines move pretty quickly.

There are many parks “near” Cedar Point. If you wanted to try a number of other parks close by and make a road trip out of it, I would recommend:

Kennywood near Pittsburgh, PA
Hersheypark — Hershey, PA
Six Flags Great Adventure — Jackson, NJ
Dorney Park — Allentown, PA
Knoebel’s — Elysburg, PA
Geauga Lake — near Cleveland (not recommended)

or

Kings Island — near Cincinnati, OH
Holiday World — Santa Claus, IN
Indiana Beach — Monticello, IN
Six Flags Great America — Gurnee, IL
Michigan’s Adventure — Muskegon, MI

Keep in mind, not all of the these are mega theme parks. Some are quaint, family owned, traditional parks, but do have some excellent coasters.

For example, all three wooden coasters at Holiday World are ranked in my Top Ten, with The Voyage, ranked at the top.

The Phoenix at Knoebel’s is my #2 wooden coaster, plus the park has a number of excellent, best of their kind, rides including their haunted house, carousel, and bumper cars.

Indiana Beach is an old fashioned, lakeside boardwalk style park with three wooden coasters, one running over the lake, and a large number of rides in their own unique. It’s a nice break from all the megapark craziness, and would add to your honeymoon experience. It’s one of my favorite parks.

Michigan’s Adventure, while not being what I consider a good park, has Shivering Timbers which has been considered one of the best wooden coasters ever. Not as totally awesome as it was when it first opened, but still a Top Ten woodie.

Don’t think about going to the West Coast for a coaster trip–

I would totally avoid Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA, like the plague. The park does have a large number of coasters but only a small number of them I would consider exceptional, and, while they are improving, the park suffers from very poor park operations and customer service. The place could be considered Cedar Point’s alter ego, with Cedar Point being the place with its head on straight.

Knott’s Berry Farm is owned by Cedar Fair, the parent company of Cedar Point, and also is beginning to suffer from poor ride operations, and customer service. Dispatch times are sluggish, and often rides are not even operational. It used to be much better within the past five years, but recently has seriously been going downhill. Sure the place has great coasters like Ghostrider, Xcelerator, Montezooma’s Revenge, and Silver Bullet, plus a large number great rides such as their log ride and Calico Mine Train, but with the park going downhill as far as the experience goes and feeling dirty as it did the last time I went, it’s hard to recommend it.

Las Vegas is not a roller coaster haven at all. I live here and the coasters absolutely do NOTHING for me. The coaster at New York, New York is one of the worst steel coasters I’ve ever been on. Extremely rough and painful.
