HONEYMOON CRUISES

HONEYMOON CRUISES
Do you suggest going on a cruise or to an island for a honeymoon?

Im not getting married anytime soon, but my boyfriend of three years and I have talked about where we would want to go on our honeymoon when we get married. I think a cruise would be fun, but I think going to a resort on a beach (like the Bahamas) or something would be fun too. Anyone have an opinion or have experienced either of these?

I have been all over the Caribbean to various islands via cruise ship and also visited for several days stay in several places, like the Bahamas, Aruba, and Cancun. So MY suggestion would be a cruise and here’s why.

First, lets say you fly to St Thomas, Puerto Rico, or Nassau Bahamas. You pay for air fare there and then you have to pay resort prices for a hotel, and then you have to pay resort prices for food, drinks and entertainment. Yes you can buy food plans and at some places maybe a drinks plan. Yes you will have a great room, especially if you spring for an ocean view or ocean front. And you will have a all types of activities to choose from and great hotel staff persons. Been there and done that and loved it. So you spend your days laying around the pool and/or on the beach, and maybe go for a sightseeing tour of the island or resort area. You will enjoy.

Now on the other hand if you select a cruise you will have to fly, or maybe drive, to the cruise departure port, then you check in at the pier and get your cabin. Your cabin will have a queen sized bed, a vanity, TV with free movies, your own private bathroom, a vanity area, safe and closet space. You’ll have your choice of 4 basic types of cabin: inside (has no window or porthole), outside (with a window or porthole), balcony/veranda, or suite. Just like the hotel your accommodations depend on how much you want to spend. But my suggestion is always a balcony cabin. But then you unpack and all the food you want to eat is free. There will be a show every evening that is free. There will be pools and hot tubs you can use any time no charge. There will be a first class gym that you can use no extra charge. There will be sports activities on the ship that you can use free of charge, like water slide, rock climbing wall, basketball/tennis court, ice skating, roller skating, mini-golf. Then the disco is open for you free of charge, no cover, no minimum. Just like in a hotel bar you do have to pay for your drinks but there are no pricier and some are cheaper than a resort hotel. You get 24/7 free room service on the ship. The ship docks at a different port each day and you can stay on board or go on a tour of a different place each day. You have the opportunity to visit and sightee several islands. You get the opportunity to visit beaches on several island, rather than the same beach each day. The beaches you visit will have all of the same water sports activities available at the resort hotel; jet ski, para-sail, snorkel, scuba, sail boat rides/trips, etc. At dinner time you can go at a set time (6:00 PM or 8:30PM), OR most cruise ship now let you go eat in the main dining room any time you want after about 6:00 PM. The main dining rooms are fabulous two and three story places that serve first class meals like steak, prime rib, shrimp, lobster, and an assortment of fish, beef pork and chicken dishes, all included in the price of your cruise. Meals are 4 or 5 courses; appetizer, soup, salad, entree, desert, and you can order seconds and thirds of any of those.

Then with a cruise you have a variety of options for the number of days and also the itinerary that the cruise ship will do. You can go on a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas, or a longer 4, 5, 7, or 9 day cruise to various Caribbean islands and Bermuda. There are Bermuda cruises, Eastern Caribbean itineraries, Western Caribbean itineraries, and Southern Caribbean itineraries and the Panama Canal. My suggestion is to browse the cruise line web sites to see what places they will take you to and to get an idea of prices. Cruise lines do have special that will save you money and you can also save by booking well in advance, like a year or so before the cruise. You can book a cruise with a minimum deposit of between $200 and $400 per person, depending upon how many days it will be and which cruise line. Then you can pay on it and it has to be paid in full about 60 to 70 days before you sail. Check out the cruise web sites below.

cruise ships are the best, they have their own live entertainment and some pools on the deck .
