When do we plan an office wedding celebration for a coworker?
In our office when someone gets married, we send around a card, take up a collection for a gift certificate, and plan a little party with cake. A coworker recently got a marriage license and got married in a quiet, private civil ceremony. (We found out after the fact.)
But he’s planning a traditional ceremony for a later date, at which time they’ll exchange vows and rings, have a reception, and then go off on a honeymoon — the whole shabang. So they’re “officialy” married, but they haven’t had their wedding yet. They don’t even have a date set.
So when do we have our little office party? Now, because they’re now legally married? Later, around the time of the traditional wedding?
Any advice here would be much appreciated!
First ask if he wants an office celebration. I got married without announcing it beforehand and was totally embarrassed by a surprise “bridal shower” disguised as a staff meeting.
If he wants one, I’d do it now, since the marriage is official.
