Asking for specific gifts on wedding invite?

I recieved an invitation to my friends bridal shower and wedding. The wedding invitation had a note asking for donations to honeymoon and furniture instead of gifts. The bridal shower invite asked for gift cards to major department stores only. I understand no one likes all the gifts they receive and yes, it isn`t fun returning stuff. But, I find this rude…Am I wrong?

So why have a shower at all? I find this very rude and presumptuous. She wants the gift cards so why can’t she go and set up a registry at these stores? I would send a giftcard to Walmart. There’s your major department store
