Does a citation go on your permanent public record like an arrest?
I got a citation for public nudity while at the beach from a park ranger in the US Virgin Islands (St. John). I had read in a tourism book that this certain beach was not legally a nudist beach, but that it was common for people to go nude there. Apparently this was outdated as there was a crackdown on public nudity some years ago. It was just a $100 fine and I do not have to go to court, but will this appear on my public record that gets looked at in court and by employers? The beach was empty and my new wife and I were on our honeymoon so we just decided to have a little fun. We didn’t expect to be interrupted on what we thought was a secluded nudity accepted area. Any help from someone with a legal background would be great.
I’d think “probably not”. No court involved, just a ticket, guessing it’s probably analagous to a speeding ticket. Even if more than that – it didn’t happen in the US (USVI not quite the same), chances of it finding it’s way into your record probably not all that good.
Personally, what I’d do – do the same thing a potential employer will do. Run a background check – you can do it on yourself. Plenty of websites offer it, costs about $20. Do this, then you’ll know.
